I've found an interesting backup tool. It's called ... rsync ;-) In fact it's GUI to rsync: gadmin-rsync - it generates ready to run scripts (based on rsync).
Prepared backup set can be run and watch its progress. It's possible to schedule those scripts using cron also.
On my laptop I'm using just scripts which are in /etc/gadmin-rsync/scripts/ dir.
